A Birthday Party for the Books!

Host a birthday party for your kids based on their favorite books! Here are some ideas for If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, Curious George and Star Wars!

So, I don’t have birthday parties in my classroom.  But, my blog is all about reading and my daughter has become quite the avid reader at home (and her little brother has followed suit).  So much so that she has requested to have her last few birthday parties based on her favorite books.

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie Birthday Party

This was their most recent party.  I will admit that this was a tricky one.  Everything that I found for “cookies” was connected to Cookie Monster, so I had to get creative!

My kids chose their favorite cookies and we set up a cookie bar:

We also had a giant cookie cake for dessert! Yes, it was delicious.  No, we didn’t finish it!

Our guests went home with boxes of mini cookies (Cookie Crisp cereal!)

I also had guests sign a copy of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.  I wish I had done this with their previous birthdays, but will definitely continue to do it in the future!

We also incorporated a lot of green and white into the decorations (balloons, tablecloth, etc.)

Curious George and the Pizza Party Birthday Party

We LOVE Curious George in our house!  My daughter had recently read the pizza party book and had been asking to make her own pizza.  So we decided to turn it into a party!

We decorated with all the George books we own.

Then we set out small pizza crusts and a variety of toppings for our guests to create their pizza.  Thankfully we only burned one!

I debated doing pizza desserts for a treat, but decided on make-your-own banana splits instead because George is a monkey, of course!

Star Wars Birthday Party

Ok, so these are technically movies.  However, my kids have not seen the movies and only know the books.  That counts, right?  My husband is a huge Star Wars fan so he was pretty excited about this one.

I made both kids a Star Wars shirt to wear to their party.

Each food had a Star Wars twist (this part was fun!).  There was Yoda Soda, Luke Sky-Water, and Jedi Juice.

We enjoyed some 7-Leia dip

We had extra candy treats for our guests to munch on that fit the theme as well.  Edible Ewoks were Teddy Grahams.

We also had some light sabers made of colorful twizzlers.

And our guests went home with light-saber bubble wands!
