Books About Reading Books
Reading Makes You Feel Good by: Todd Parr
Reading Makes You Feel Good is the perfect story to inspire readers. With funky and colorful illustrations and a powerful message written in simple terms, your students will absolutely enjoy this book. It delivers an important message about the beauty of reading and what it does for you. Reading helps you learn new things, takes you to new places, and builds imagination. It is a definite must-read for National Reading Month.
How to Read a Story by: Kate Messner
How to Read a Story is a charming picture book about reading and books. It’s a reading tutorial on well…how to read a book! And it includes advice and an overall appreciation of reading. I love this format, and it’s definitely one of my favorite books because of the unique twist. The illustrations are entertaining, and your students will just love the step-by-step approach taken in this read-aloud.
How to Read a Book by: Kwame Alexander
How to Read a Book is probably one of the most interesting books I have shared, mainly because it does not make for a good read-aloud. The text is difficult to read because of the collage-like art and bright colors included in the illustration. But, in the same regard, the illustrations are unique, and the message is also just as great, making it a great book to include on your bookshelves. I would definitely pull this book out for a small-group read or partner read, but unfortunately, it’s not a great option for a whole group read-aloud. But, it will definitely take your students on a reading journey!
I Don’t Want to Read a Book by: Max Greenfield
I Don’t Want to Read a Book is full of energy and laugh-out-loud fun, and your students will, without a doubt, get a kick out of this book. And, if you are a big fan of Schmidt from New Girl, you are absolutely going to want to include this book on your shelves. An excellent option for your reluctant readers and opening up a discussion on why many students don’t enjoy reading. I love how it’s light and airy with some serious humor. And, if you are a fan of The Book With No Pictures, you’re going to want to snag a copy of this one. A perfect read for National Reading Month.
I Will Not Read This Book by: Cece Meng
I Will Not Read This Book is the story of a reluctant reader who refuses to love books. There is actually nothing you can do to change his mind, or is there? Another funny story about being a reluctant reader with humor, excellent illustrations, and a simple message that keeps your students engaged. And, it’s definitely relatable for those students who don’t love reading.
