Stand in My Shoes by Bob Sornson
This book allows readers to make connections with what empathy means. It teaches students how to show that you are understanding someone else’s feelings or what they are going through.
We are All Wonders by R.J. Palacio
A companion to the popular novel, Wonder, for the younger crowd. The young boy in the story is different than other kids and how he uses his imagination to escape. An important book about showing empathy and kindness.
The Invisible Boy by Trudy Ludwig
No one ever notices Brian. But, when a new boy arrives, Brian is the first to make him feel welcome. A story that shows how important just one act of kindness can be.

Those Shoes by Maribeth Boelts
A picture book that will be a mirror for some and a window for others. It is a powerful look into the life of a young boy who wants the shoes that “everyone” else has. His Grandma explains that they are too expensive. The young boy find outs who his true friends are and what he he truly needs, not wants.
I am Human by Susan Verde
This is the third book in the wellness series from Susan Verde. It shows that it is human to make mistakes. The book stresses the importance of empathy in way that resonates with young kids.
