Books for Graduates
You Matter by Christian Robinson
You Matter is a gem of a book that is what we all need right now. A book that reminds kids that they matter whether they are big or small, first or last, follow the crowd, fall down, are old or young. It is a book without much text. A quiet book that will help kids see that they matter no matter how others see them or they see themselves.
The illustrations bring joy, empathy, and love to the pages. You Matter reminds kids that we believe in them and support them.
The Magical Yet by Angela DiTerlizzi
The Magical Yet is a great read aloud to encourage perseverance and self-esteem. It is an inspirational, colorful book for ever kid who is frustrated by what they can’t do…YET! A reminder that persistence and practice are they keys to achieving your dreams.
What Will You Be? by Yamile Saied Mendez
A young girl dreams about all the endless possibilities, sparking a sense of wonder, curiosity and growth. With her abuela’s loving guidance, she goes on a path of self-discovery and learns her potential is limitless. In What Will You Be? the child ultimately realizes that she’ll be content because she’ll be herself.
I Believe I Can by Grace Byers
I Believe I Can shares that we can do anything we want to do, if we truly believe it. But, instead of trying to paint this picture of a perfect world and perfect life, Byers reminds children that mistakes will be made and accidents do happen. The best thing we can do is pick ourselves up, dust off our knees and continue to keep trying.
The rhyming scheme will appeal to children and pick up on the important message. The representation throughout the illustrations in this book is wonderful.
You are Ready! The World is Waiting by Eric Carle
With Eric Carle’s signature bright illustrations, You are Ready! encourages us to be open to new possibilities. To be brave in the face of the changes and challenges that life lays in front of us. This book reminds readers that the key to achieving all they desire lies within. You are Ready! encourages children to pursue their dreams.
