Fourth of July is my absolute favorite holiday. I spend it at the beach and enjoy a BBQ in the backyard before watching the fireworks! It is also the perfect time to share some patriotic books with your students. So, I pulled together some of my favorite Fourth of July picture books!

Fourth of July Picture Books
Her Right Foot by Dave Eggers
Her Right Foot is a fascinating, fun take on nonfiction! It tells the story of the Statue of Liberty’s long journey from Paris, France to New York Harbor. She is a gift of friendship that came to represent hope and freedom. Her Right Foot expresses love, tolerance, curiosity, and what our country stands for. The illustrations are truly beautiful and engaging in this book.
The Flag We Love by Pam Munoz Ryan
The Flag We Love is a simple, but informative book. It is full of beautiful illustrations and rhyming poems throughout. This book shares the history of our flag and how we honor it.
What Can a Citizen Do? by Dave Eggers
What Can a Citizen Do? is another great one from Dave Eggers. Part of celebrating out country is understanding that we are all an important part of that country. This is a fantastic book to share in classrooms to help kids get a sense of belonging to a community. What Can a Citizen Do? touches on how we are all members of a society in which we help others out.
Blue Sky White Stars by Sarvinder Naberhaus
Blue Sky White Stars is an inspiring and patriotic tribute to the beauty of the American flag, a symbol of America’s history. The simple verses pair well with the amazing paintings on each page.
Blue Sky White Stars is a wonderfully written, informational text. It sheds light on the meaning of patriotic phrases and ideas through features of the American Flag. This book is a powerful ode to America then and now.
O, Say Can You See? by Sheila Keenan
O, Say Can You See? celebrates and explains America’s symbols, landmarks and important words. The book uses lively, brief text and bright, humorous illustrations. O, Say Can You See? is a celebrations of twenty of America’s important places, interesting objects, and inspiring words for readers of all ages.
