Can you even believe that 2022 is quickly approaching. And, one of my favorite things to do this time of year is to search and discover new picture books that are being released. So, I have done some digging and found some new amazing books that will be released throughout 2022. I am excited to share a few of my favorites with you!

New Releases of 2022 Read-Aloud Books
Beauty Woke by: NoNieqa Ramos
Beauty Woke is a powerful story of pride and community. As Beauty grows older she begins to her lose sight of what makes her special. But, her community bands together to remind her of the beauty that her culture holds. This story is full of spectacular art, and I’m really excited for it to be released in 2022.
America Desi by: Jyoti Rajan Gopal
America Desi is a poetic story that empowers South Asian children living in the U.S. A young girl is struggling to find where she fits in. And. this book helps young children understand they can celebrate and love more than one culture. You’re definitely going to want to add this one to your classroom library.
Strong by: Rob Kearney
Strong highlights the story of a young boy who dreams of being a champion strongman. But, with unicorn leggings and bright colors, will he find a way? This story speaks of perseverance, hard work, and overcoming obstacles. I’m really excited to get this one in my hands in 2022. An overall positive picture book that will keep students engaged with vibrant and beautiful artwork.
The Year We Learned to Fly by: Jacqueline Woodson
The Year We Learned to Fly is the story of a young boy and girl who have found themselves pretty bored, and they turn to their grandmother. Their grandmother encourages them to use their imaginations to lift them up. A great story to remind us that through difficult situations we can find a way to lift up just as others before us have. Keep an eye out for an early 2022 release for this book!
The World Belonged to Us by: Jacqueline Woodson
The World Belonged to Us is a beautiful depiction of the joy and freedom that summer in the city offers. From chasing the ice cream truck to being called home for dinner. This story uses rhythmic text and incredibly capturing art to bring us to a place to experience summer in the city. A nostalgic book for many!
Fly by: Brittany J. Thurman
Fly is a beautiful story of a young girl who wants to follow in her grandmother’s footsteps of becoming a Double Dutch legend. And, she won’t let the fact that she has never done it before stop her—a story of self-confidence and a great depiction of following your dreams.
You Have a Voice by: Vera Ahiyya
You Have a Voice is a powerful book written by a fellow educator. This story celebrates the power that every child holds within their voice. We all can rise up and make changes by using our voices. A compelling book and I can barely contain my excitement for this one. And, be sure to follow Vera and the wealth of knowledge that she shares.
