I can’t believe it is already November! I’m excited because November is full of so many great holidays which makes it the perfect time to start new traditions and to learn about traditions others may have. I am sharing some great books to read throughout the month of November. These November books will help you celebrate Dia de Los Muertos, Diwali, World Kindness Day and more.

November Read Aloud Books
Dia de los Muertos by: Roseanne Greenfield Thong
Dia de los Muertos is great book to learn about the traditions of Dia de los Muertos or the Day of the Dead which is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd. The children throughout the town are preparing for the festivities and the bright pictures illustrate what a bright and happy time this celebration truly is. There is a Spanish glossary included in the back with more details to help your students learn more about this important holiday.
Shubh Diwali! By: Chitra Soundar
Shubh Diwali is a simple yet beautifully illustrated book that introduces us to the Hindu celebration- festival of lights, or Diwali. This holiday is celebrated on November 4th and throughout the story we are taken through bright and coloreful illustrations highlighting the traditions of this holiday. This story has another wonderful author’s note giving us more detail around the traditions and festivities associated with Diwali.
Nacho’s Nachos by: Sandra Nickel
Nacho’s Nachos is a great story to read on November 6th to celebrate National Nachos Day. You can learn more about this fun story in my Hispanic Heritage read aloud post.
Rosie Revere, Engineer by: Andrea Beaty
Rosie Revere, Engineer is a wonderful story that not only promotes scientific thinking but also inspires us to keep going even when we fail, and encourages children in their passions to do great things. This book is part of the questionnaire series that would be an excellent choice to celebrate National STEM Day on November 8th.
Coming Home by: Greg Ruth
Coming Home is a powerful and emotional story that illustrates what a child might be feeling when they are reunited with their parent who has been away at war. Although this story is wordless, it is beautiful and a great choice to read to your students on November 11th for Veteran’s Day.
Hike by: Pete Oswald
Hike is a great wordless picture book where a father and son take a stunning hike. This story reminds us of the importance of protecting and preserving the world around us. Hike celebrates the beauty of nature and the importance of getting out in it. A perfect pick to celebrate National Hiking day on November 17th.
Oskar and the 8 blessings by: Tanya Simon
Oskar and the 8 blessings is a a beautiful story about a young immigrant’s arrival in New York City. As Oskar travels to his aunt’s house, he learns that even the smallest encounters can be blessings. Hanukkah begins on November 28th this year and this is a great story to read for the holiday and as a gentle introduction to the Holocaust.
