What is more exciting in the wintertime than snow?! Whether it is that first snowfall or the 25th snowfall of the season, it is still magical for students. Bringing that joy into the classroom with picture books is so much fun! Here are my favorite snow read aloud books for kids.

Snow Read Aloud Books
Snow by Cynthia Rylant
Snow is a beautiful book! The words are almost poetic, as Rylant describes the different types of snow that we experience. There is snow that sends you home early from school and snow that makes you want to curl up under a blanket. This book makes me nostalgic for my childhood days!
The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats
The Snowy Day is a classic! Peter wakes up to a blanket of snow outside his window. We follow him along on his day, as he explores the snow in different ways. Such a fun story!
And if you have Amazon Prime, you can check out the movie version of this book! I’m usually a “the book is better” type of person, but this movie does the book justice!
Snowflake Bentley by Jacqueline Briggs Martin
Snowflake Bentley is a great nonfiction story to share with your students! A true story about a boy who loved snowflakes and grew up to share that passion with the world. A great story about perseverance. And your students will be fascinated by snowflakes by the end!
Ten Ways to Hear Snow by Cathy Camper
Ten Ways to Hear Snow is a brand new book and a beautiful one at that! Lina wakes up one morning to find that snow had fallen over night. On her way to visit her Grandma, Lina discovers that snow can be heard in many different ways! At her Grandma’s retirement home, she describes these ways as the make warak enab together.
Owl Moon by Jane Yolen
Owl Moon is not necessarily a book about snow, but the feeling of snow definitely comes through. The young child describes the crunching of the snow and the taste of a wet scarf as they go owling in the woods at night. Beautiful imagery!
Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner
Over and Under the Snow is full of beautiful language and accurate scientific details. Another great nonfiction book to share with your students. It shares the behavior of animals in winter, both over and under the snow.
